Teen advisory boards. RoseMary Honnold A session on how to form and coordinate teen advisory boards and how to use them to help plan teen programs and activities. An overview of developmental assets and how public libraries can provide asset building opportunities will be featured. Includes time to brainstorm and share ideas with classmates. |

Basic book repair (class size limited). Sondra Stanway This workshop will include a brief introductory discussion about caring for a library collection and will be followed by hands-on training with the goal of learning the following skills: Repairing paper tears, cuts and losses; Tightening and repairing damaged or loose hinges; Tipping- and hinging-in detached pages; Repairing spine head or tail; Repairing book board corners. |

Wireless in libraries part 1: concerns and issues. Steve Shields This session will focus on the various concerns and issues for public libraries offering wireless Internet access to patrons. Includes an overview of different wireless technologies, review of basic networking concepts, how wireless fits into an existing network architecture, and wireless security. |

Wireless in libraries part 2: hands-on (class size limited). Steve Shields Please pre-register for part 2 if you want to get hands-on experience. Participants will incorporate the concepts discussed in "Wireless in libraries : part 1" to actually create their own wifi networks by configuring wireless access points, applying security, and learning how troubleshoot wireless networks. |

Law for Alaskan librarians. Candy Morgan This workshop covers the legal issues that affect libraries: the 1st Amendment and corollary rights under the constitution, religious issues, the rights of youth, Internet problems and sexual harassment, and privacy. It will also cover how to develop library policies and procedures that incorporate the demands of due process and equal protection under the law, as well as how to turn a censorship challenge into a an opportunity to educate your community. |
