A historic nine story building, recently upgraded, the Baranof is in the heart of downtown, has nice rooms, some suites, and is a moderate walk downhill to Centennial Hall (not as close as Goldbelt or Prospector, but still walking distance). The Baranof is a fine hotel, appealing in its own right, and is a favorite among visiting legislators.

The Prospector is a convenient distance to the conference site at Centennial Hall and has a restaurant on-site. It has clean rooms, many with kitchenettes, that are good for sharing.

The Driftwood is close to Centennial Hall and downtown and offers low-frills, Alaska-style accomodations at a reasonable rate.
Travel
Alaska Airlines offers travelers to the AkLA conference a 10% discount off Alaska Airlines published excursion fares, except companion and other promotional fares, for travel to Juneau from all of Alaska Airlines and Horizon Airs' cities between February 18th and 28th. Any change or cancellation after ticketing is subject to a service charge. All fare rules and blackout dates apply.
To get the 10% discount when booking online at alaskaair.com, participants should enter the eCert code ECCMR9023 in the eCert code box when filling out the Flights Quick search box.

AkLA Conference Attendance Award
Eligibility: Any AkLA member, including library staff, volunteers, board members, and trustees, from the region in which the annual conferenceis to be held. Two or more applicants may share this award.
Criteria: Available to individuals with an interest in their own career development.
Application process: Applicants should submit an application that states how attendance at conference will enhance their education or library duties and includes information on how the travel funds will be used to attend conference.
This application shall be sent to the State Library Continuing Education Committee by January 25. Who makes the decision? A committee composed of the AkLA Continuing Education committee chair and the State Library Continuing Education Coordinator.
Successful applicants agree to attend all three days of conference, keep a daily log describing sessions attended, and will write a one-page summary of their conference experiences for Newspoke. When is the award presented? The letter is usually sent in January.
The $500 travel check is presented during conference.
What is the award? A letter from the AkLA President and a check for $500 to cover travel expenses. Conference registration fees will be waived for the successful applicant.
How is the award announced? Recipients will be listed in the conference awards brochure and will be asked to stand and be recognized at conference. The recipients will also be listed in Newspoke. Additional information: AkLA has annually funded the conference attendance award since 1977.
