All AkLA trips are scheduled for Thursday, February 23 and will start promptly from the Westmark Hotel and Conference CenterA minimum of 6 participants registered in advance is needed to ensure that the tours will run.

Thursday, February 23

9:00 am -11:00 am
Book Shopping Tour -- Visit Gulliver's Books, new and used books with excellent Alaska section and Forget-Me Not Bookstore, used books (Literary Council of Alaska).
Cost: $15:00

9:00 am - 12 noon
CRREL Permafrost Tunnel and Alyeska Pipeline -- Research facility to study permafrost - unique opportunity to visit this facility.Cold weather clothing needed, 9:00 - 12 noon.
Cost: $25:00

12 noon -1:30 pm
A buffet lunch will be available at the Westmark Fairbanks Hotel and Conference Center. You will need to sign up when you register for AkLA 2012.
Cost: $20:00

1:00 - 3:00 pm

Cold Climate Housing Research Center -- Research center and library for the development, use and testing of energy-efficient building technologies.
Cost: $15:00

Morris Thompson Cultural and Visitors Center -- New Museum showing life in the Alaskan interior (historic and present) and Alaska Geographic Bookstore, 3:30 - 5:00 pm
Cost: $10:00

Tour Event

Chena Hot Springs: There is no AKLA tour scheduled for the Chena Hot Springs. Conference attendees must make their own arrangements if wishing to visit. The Chena Hot Springs is approximately 60 miles from Fairbanks along the Chena Hot Springs Road.

  • Unfortunately, the IceAlaska event will not be open during AkLA 2012.
