Ira Perman![]() Ira Perman is the President of the Alaska Humanities Forum, a position he has held since 2001. He directs an organization that serves to improve the civic, intellectual and cultural life of Alaskans through a portfolio of programs and grants that include: The Rose Urban Rural Student Exchange Program, Leadership Anchorage, an Alaska History and Cultural Studies curriculum for high school students, and now, “Ready to Read. Ready to Learn” - an initiative to improve the literacy skills of young Alaskans. From 1981 to 2000, Mr. Perman was the Executive Director of the Anchorage Concert Association, serving during that time on numerous national arts boards and grant review panels. Taking a sabbatical in the summer of 2000, Mr. Perman volunteered his time to help defeat a statewide ballot proposition (by a margin of 72% – 28%) that, like California’s infamous Prop 13, would have been particularly devastating to Alaska’s schools and cultural institutions. |
